The artist probably heard "beanie weenie" from his own daughter and found the inspiration for that strip.

A swiss cheese with ketchup sandwich sounds like the kind of thing you make because those are the only ingredients in the fridge.

Is Calvin and Hobbes the most profound comic strip........in the World? Or is it XKCD? Clearly there are no other contenders. Discuss.

I started reading C&H when I was in college in the late 80s. It was funny then, but once I had children it became even more poignant since I could relate that much more. XKCD is quite good, but I don’t have a scientific brain and the comics are sometimes lost on me. The author still has strong powers of observation, just in a different way. Both are great.

For me, I’ve loved C&H since I first encountered it as a teenager, but I’m an engineer, I work with engineers, and most of my friends are people I met at college who are now scientists: XKCD is basically the song of my people. So I’m torn.
